Question: help with rat training?
i have 2 young male dumbo rats and 1 large male and i have been trying to train my 2 young-ens to be good rats. i have rid to put yogurt on a spoon and lure them onto my hand to eat it, but no matter what i put in front of their faces they wont eat it unless im not around. i want these two rats to turn out like my large one so i could really use some help.
Answer: just try handling them more. i had two rats that just recently passed who were both feeder rats, so they wernt use to being held (b/c no one cares about snake food). so i got them into my home and into a cage, they were scared as heck of me. so i gave them a day to get comfortable with eachother and their new cage. then i took a towel (to make sure they didnt bite) and i lured one in a corner and picked her up. i would hold each one for about an hour or more each day. then about a week passed and i opened the cage and stuck my hand in the cage to let them smell me. then i caught one and put her on my lap and let her crawl on me and i would give each on attention yet again for about an hour each day. they eventually became extremely comfortable with me to where they would even lick my face =D

sorry i meant red devils its a spoon for walleyeAnswer: Listen, I maybe sadly mistaken the devil spoon has been around since they invented rod and reels. Its a spoon with a Treble Hook on the back and its red with a curvy white stripe down the center. This is sold everywhere. Wal-Mart, Academy, Bass-Pro, Cabellas, etc.... It would be sad to go in any bait shop or outdoors shop and they not have them.

Question: should I put a tail on my spoon when fishing for landlocked salmon?
Answer: Hi...we fish for salmon every year on lake michigan. what we have found that works well are flies with bright colors like silver and chartreuse (bright green)...we have caught coho on spoons as well...my favorite one is bright green metallic (caught my biggest salmon on that baby, 30 lbs!!...lol) stick with the bright colors of the spoon itself, the salmon are attracted to the flashes it makes in the water. there is no need to add anything to it.

Question: I need some fishing advice. Lures ,spoons ,or real bait??? And how should I Rig it???

I still need more info! Like whats a leader?Answer: It sounds like you're going to be doing salt water fishing. I'd suggest you get a rig with a heavy weight - like a 7 oz (it's shaped like a pyramid), and attach it to a rig that has 2 leaders, each with a small, single hook. Bait the rig with blood worms, and fish it off the bottom. You'll catch all kinds of stuff. This time of year, you should be able to catch a bunch of croaker up there, maybe even some rockfish.

Question: What kind of bass tackle can I use for Steelhead Fishing?
I do have a small assortment of in-line spinners, spoons, and small plastics I started using for trout in NC. Now I live in Oregon and want to try for steelhead and was wondering what kind of artificial I can use that I already have. Jigs, small cranks, soft plastics? any ideas or techniques? Really don't want to go out and buy a bunch of new tackle. Rods and reels are no problem.
Answer: Welcome to the Pacific Northwest. The good news is...you are going to love fishing here. I am particularly fond of the Columbia River. The bad news is...salmon and Steelhead Fishing is a whole new ball game. I'm wouldn't bother trying to accomodate existing equipment and techniques...you are going to have to do some assimilation. As you already know, you have to head down to the river and spend time with the guys who fish a particular area...techniques and terminal tackle will vary even within a relatively limited stretch of the river. And, of course, there's no substitute for knowing the river.
Also, the trick here is how NOT to catch bass when you are after something else.

Question: Fishing Tackle Help...?
I'm going to get some tackle for sea and coarse fishing but I don't know what to get. I'm stuck between Spinners; Spoons; Plugs or Lures. I've basically just started fishing but I've learnt quite a lot and I've never used these 4 things so I don't kno the differences. ETC. Please Help.
Thanks.Answer: ive used all of these methods and there is one thing you have missed out and that is rubber jigs one of the best to catch pike( coarse fishing) but i find spinners the best on sea waters because for e.g the mackerel (sea fish) has Strong and faster eating power than a pike so they rip up the jigs so spinners are the all time favorite on any sea water for any fish.. but don't get me wrong these baits all work for pike every one of them. i suggest you should look on this website.
Spinners-are artificial fish like baits that imitate an injured fish with the spin effect and the flash.
Spoons- are like spinners but bigger that send of vibrations to attract the fish.
Plugs- are a plastic or wooden artificial bait that imitates a small or big fish and are more detailed and come in different varieties like some can be deep divers that have a plastic nose that makes it dive a certain depth.
Lures- are pretty much the same a plugs but are not as detailed and clever lures are again artificial and imitate the fish and can come in different varieties like they can float,dive,mid depth,and also can have Ball Bearings inside them to rattle and make a noise all of these baits are all different colours and imitate certain types of fish.
Rubber jigs- thes are the best for pike and perch fishing in my eyes these are so more realistic than any other baits for coarse fishing you would'nt use these for sea fishing because they get ripped to shreds unlikne pike only bite them and so do any other coarse fish. these are jelly that give a realistic imitation that is great and wobble and give real good actions in the water.

Question: what is the best test line to use when fishing for speckled trout and redfish?
bought a spoon lure and im going to use a 17 lb line, i think it might be too much and might not cast very far
Answer: On most of my rods I have 12lb Mono. If I'm fishing a tournament and money is on the line I use 1.5ft of 25lb Florocarbon leader. On a couple of my rods I have 30lb braid. So to answer your question 17lb mono is a little heavy, I would use 12-15lb and maybe a leader. 90% of trout you catch will be under 5lbs and a 15-30lb redfish can still be caught if you use your drag. I've caught big stuff on 12lb line

I am trying to make my own fishing spoons. For those of you who do not know what it is:www.make-your-own-fishing-lures.com/images/fishing-spoons.jpg
It has a concave body but a convex tapered end.
My plan is to make it out of thin metal sheets but I have no idea how to "mold" it into that shape. What im thinking is I gouge the spoon shape into a piece of 2x4 wood then lay a piece of oval metal sheet over it then hammer it until it takes on the shape. Do you guys have any other suggestions? Are there other materials I could use to "mold" the shape instead of wood?

Spoons are a pretty precise lure, albeit uncomplicated appearance. Put it this way, if you don't have your lateral bend centered, you're gonna end up making spinners instead of spoons....

Question: ive been fishing lkae menroe witch is an inlet of the St. john's river and none of my bait seem to be working?
ive used all kinds of bait and i dont have ONE fish (bass) its a small part of te river witch a down tree, good vegitation snakes ,alligators, the whole 9 yards butnone of my baits work. (i have used 10-20 kinds of soft baits, a few tpo water, spoons. i was wodnering if yall had a specific bait or kind of bait and color of bait.
Answer: If you're not having any luck using lures then go with large shiners. If that gator is around, freeline the shiner instead of using a float. The float will just attract the gator and you'll lose the whole rig.
Another thing, have you tried fishing that area at different times? Early morn is best using artificial worms without a weight. Cast far back into the tree as possible and twitch out just under the surface. Use Black, pumkin seed, watermelon and red shad colors. You may also want to try out some lizards as well in the pumpkin seed color.
Another thing too is that you may be casting a shadow over the water. This spooks the fish and it's over. Try to avoid this by changing positions or casting in angles. Other than that, I don't know what else to say. Hope that helps you out some. Good luck catchin'.

To catch a walleye you have to make sure the bait is very close to them and that it is moving slowly. Walleye normally don't bother to chase after their meals and they move even slower in the colder months. Therefore, using jigs and bobber rigs are the best gear to get the job done. The recommended jigs are the light colored ones such as white and yellow and the ones that weigh between 1/16 and 1/4 ounces, they just seen to work the best when fishing in Brainerd Minnesota. The walleye in this area tend to prefer Live Bait so you will find that minnows, night crawlers and leeches work very well.
However, you can also have some good luck with spinner baits, crankbaits, Plastic Worms and grubs. Keep in mind that when spawning season arrives the walleye are a lot more active and aggressive so other methods can work great during this time of year. Spawning starts when the water reaches a temperature somewhere around 47 degrees, which occurs just after the "ice out" begins. This is the time of year they are hungry so fishing with spoons can get you some fantastic results. In clear water the spoons have a flashing effect that gets the attention of the walleye. The spoons that have sound will also attract their attention and draw them to your line.
During spawning you can find them migrating away from the lake and swimming towards feeder streams. They will also be found in shoals, gravel ledges, submerged logs and similar items and around shallow bars that are located near the deep water that has clean bottoms. You will get the best results when fishing shallow to medium depths. The more you know about the area the easier it will be for you to locate the walleye during this time of year and when spawning is over.
Right after the spawning the male walleyes will begin to do some serious feeding while the females wait a couple weeks before they begin. This is an excellent time for Brainerd walleye fishing that can produce some exciting results. In the summer months they will in the shallow water in the early morning and late evening but if fishing during the day you need to search deeper and around structures to find them. Using bait that resembles crawfish is an excellent choice because the walleye are attracted to crawfish and you will get some great results.
When fishing for walleyes during the fall you will need to use crankbaits, spoons and jigs because these will work the best and they can be found in shallow to medium depths, mostly during the evening and morning hours. During the winter the walleyes respond best to spoons, jigs and Plastic Worms and they move very slowly so you must compensate for this. You will need to search for them in deep structures during the day and at medium depths in the early mornings.
Even though the walleyes are night feeders this doesn't mean that you can't fish for them during the day as well. This is especially true in areas where the water is dark and murky. You can also catch them suspended over ledges and drop offs so don't limit yourself to just bottom fishing for this species. Even though it is true they are bottom feeders, many walleyes are caught in shallow to medium depths as well.
