Question: should I put a tail on my spoon when fishing for landlocked salmon?
Answer: Hi...we fish for salmon every year on lake michigan. what we have found that works well are flies with bright colors like silver and chartreuse (bright green)...we have caught coho on spoons as well...my favorite one is bright green metallic (caught my biggest salmon on that baby, 30 lbs!!...lol) stick with the bright colors of the spoon itself, the salmon are attracted to the flashes it makes in the water. there is no need to add anything to it.

Question: I need some fishing advice. Lures ,spoons ,or real bait??? And how should I Rig it???

I still need more info! Like whats a leader?Answer: It sounds like you're going to be doing salt water fishing. I'd suggest you get a rig with a heavy weight - like a 7 oz (it's shaped like a pyramid), and attach it to a rig that has 2 leaders, each with a small, single hook. Bait the rig with blood worms, and fish it off the bottom. You'll catch all kinds of stuff. This time of year, you should be able to catch a bunch of croaker up there, maybe even some rockfish.

Question: Are three small chillies equivalent to two Large Chillies from Wendy's?
So I am just about broke now in this recession, and I looked on Wendy's nutritional guide page and it looks like there are 6 grams of fat in a small chili, but 9 grams of fat in a large chili. This leads me to believe that I can indeed get the equivalent of two large chillis which retail for about $4.25 here in Texas for only $3.22. What is the point of this? Doesn't Wendy's lose more money by giving out three containers plus the extra saltines, spoon, and chilli packets!!??

Is Your Company Getting a Piece of âChristmas Pieâ this Season?
Christmas time is here again! Whether you think of Christmas as a religious holiday, a time for family get-togethers, or a purely commercial event that creates a shopping buzz—one thing is for sure. You cannot underestimate the Christmas season and the revenue it creates. Christmas is an unstoppable force in today’s economy. Recession or not, children want their toys, dad wants his Christmas bonus and mom wants the whole family to come together and eat on December 25th. It’s hard to imagine not working in the Christmas season into your marketing plan somehow or another.Â
The question is how can you plan for Christmas in an economy that’s colder than Rudolph’s red nose? After all, you have to take seriously reports from the American Research Group that suggest Americans cut their Christmas budget in half for 2008, an average of $431 down from $859 in 2007. What was to account for the drop off? It could have been any number of things. The year 2008 was when the recession hit full swing. A lot of people were waiting to see what would happen in 2009. A lot of people were so busy writing angry letters to the White House that they forgot all about Christmas spirit. A lot of people had already bought the Nintendo Wii and still had Wii-itis. In short, there are a lot of people out there and a lot of speculative reasons on why 2008 was a disappointment.
Now the question is what are people going to do in 2009? Are we supposed to believe that the economy is improving and it’s time to start spending like Vanilla Ice in the 1990s? Not exactly. No one is saying that the recession is over. However, we are entering into a phase of stabilization, if not in literal financial terms, than in our own minds. The Huffington Post recently ran a story on the “Statistics of the Recession†and stated that “parts of the economy are stabilizing.â€Â The report went on to say that while consumers are still “hunkered down†that retail sales are actually showing gains. So while it’s definitely not safe to say the recession is behind us, it is safe to say that the problems we are dealing with are a bit less urgent. It’s as if we have reconciled the effects of the recession in our minds and are now planning practical solutions and reworking our budgets to survive these tough times ahead.Â
Now that we have saved some money by spending frugally, it’s time to splurge on Christmas presents for the family. If not your family members and friends then who or what is really worth splurging on? To me, this seems to be the attitude of the 2009 Christmas season. Perhaps we have all had a chance to mull over the brevity of life and now realize that the most important things in life are family, friends, presents and Christmas desserts. Personally, I go for Christmas pie.
What type of Christmas pie are you going to have this year? More importantly, how much of it are you going to have? Are you going to get a big, heaping helping of Christmas pie or are you going to go for the thin slice?Â
The Christmas season is quite possibly the biggest retail event of the year, recession or not, and shopping for Christmas encompasses the “Black Friday†day-after-Thanksgiving sale all the way to December 25th.Â
The U.S. Census speculates judging from reports from retail stores that well over $30 billion dollars in America alone is spent during the Christmas season. Furthermore, retailers take a sizable “jump†in sales from the November to December time frame. The Census Bureau states that clothing stores jump up 48%, electronic stores 58% and jewelry stores a whopping 170%.
If you’re a retailer then I’ll bet you can almost taste that piece of holiday pie. Imagine just a fraction of a billion dollars coming your way. With just that fraction, you could probably close up shop for half a year and vacation in Tahiti. Come to think of it, Santa Claus must be really cashing in on the Christmas licensing money. No wonder the guy only works one day a year!
How is the Christmas 2009 season looking anyway? Is it just wishful thinking that says this year is going to be better than the last? There are actually quite a few sources predicting a jollier holiday season in 2009. Analysts Shawn DuBravac and Steve Koenig announced some optimistic findings at the Day One of the New York City-held CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) Line Shows.Â
DuBravac stated that “The first quarter of 2009 was abysmal, the second showed signs of life, the third is showing lots of hope and there is great anticipation for the fourth quarter.â€Â While the 2009 Christmas season is still predicted to be low compared to superior economy years, it is expected to out-gross 2008.â€Â
Fox Business News also reported favorable predictions, citing reports from Forrester Research. According to reports, U.S. online sales are expected to rise 8% this holiday season. Predicted figures for online sales are up to $44.7 billion dollars for just November and December alone. The reason why online marketing continues stabilizing even while unemployment grows? Because a great majority of online shoppers are looking for lower-cost alternatives to the high-priced brands they usually buy.
What does this have to do with article marketing, you ask? Simple. Article marketing is your spoon—the spoon that scoops the pie. This is a big piece of pie to consume, so you can’t just put your dirty hands all over it. You have to eat it carefully, scooping up every last taste of cherry, pecan, blueberry, chocolate, apple or whatever is your pleasure. In other words, you need an instrument or a utensil to grab a piece of this market.
The fact of the matter is that most of these lower-cost alternative companies that make money—you know, the ones that aren’t Wal-Mart or Amazon—rely on article marketing to sell their products. They can’t afford to advertise a banner on Yahoo. They can’t afford to put up billboards all over a major city. They also don’t have the luxury of powerhouse branding. They can brand all they want, but they’re not going to become the next Amazon or the next Ebay over night.Â
Therefore, smaller retailers have to find a different avenue from which to profit from the holiday season. They are still fighting for the same consumers, but they don’t have the muscle to wrestle customers away from bigger companies. The most effective strategy then is to stop trying to manipulate the audience into coming over and instead make the customers come to them. (This is an example of “attraction marketingâ€)Â
Online retailers do this by keyword phrase marketing, or what I call article marketing and Search Engine Optimization. In this scenario, the retailer determines what keywords the customer is searching for (there is tools for this). The retailer then uses SEO to his advantage and creates articles that feature these keyword phrases. The quantity and quality of this writing sets the website apart from the rest, and increases the company’s ranking. Now, for a certain keyword phrase the company’s website comes back as #1 or #2. The customer sees that the search engine considers this site’s information the most relevant. Now is your chance to shine! You must subtly but surely convince the customer to buy your product—which he has already expressed an interest in buying.Â
Just a word for advice to the retailers—remember if you are trying to avoid competing with bigger brands then avoid using the same sledgehammer approach that they do. Instead of trying to explain how great your company is, instead focus on meeting the individual needs of the customer. Explain the “who, what, where, why and how†of this business and why they need quality products. After giving this helpful information, you can discreetly provide a link to your store. Customers aren’t stupid! They know you’re selling something. Just give them some time to get to know you and trust you before you start pushing products.
Search Engine Optimization techniques involve both the content of your website as well as the articles you submit to directories. You use SEO to optimize your website content. However, since your website is relatively unpopular (assuming you’re working your way up the ladder) you want to use the momentum of a popular site to sell your product and promote your company. Enter the article marketing phase. Articles are created for your company and posted to a popular online directory. This not only helps in increasing your targeted traffic, but also helps to establish you as an expert in your field.
Believe all the hype you hear about search engine marketing. This is where consumers are, because they are following the gossip that says you can buy anything you want from a retail store through the Internet at a fraction of the cost. They know that savings are out there, they’re just not sure where to find them. So what do they do? They type in keyword phrases into major search engines looking for their Christmas wish. And hey, who can really blame them? Shopping online sure beats having to endure the mad Christmas rush inside brick and mortar stores.
Writer Chris Sherman quoted studies from Enquiro, Did-it and Eyetools that suggested that online viewers usually always go for the top ranking search results, and also tend to follow an “F†pattern, with the eye traveling vertically along the far left side of the screen—always looking for relevant keywords. The effectiveness of SEO and article marketing in advertising is practically indisputable. It has the potential to work for you also.
If you are a retailer then you are at a crucial point in time. You are struggling to make your business recession proof and are right at the door of $44 billion dollar holiday season. Don’t tell me that you haven’t worked Christmas into your marketing plans and business plans. Don’t tell me that you aren’t aggressively pursuing your online customer base. Don’t tell me you are taking a wait-and-see attitude towards article marketing. Because taking a lackadaisical approach to this “rebound†season is almost the worst thing you can do right now.Â
If you can’t profit this holiday season then when are you going to get your slice of the pie? In April? During tax time? I don’t know about you, but if I’m sitting at Christmas dinner and looking at a delicious piece of uneaten pie that no one is claiming, I’m reaching for that pie! Matter of fact, you might have to stab me with your fork to keep me from grabbing it!
You get the point. This is survival of the fittest in retail marketing, and if you can’t afford an expensive advertising campaign like the big boys of retail then you have to invest in search engine optimization and article marketing if you want any of that $44 billion dollar online sales market this holiday season. This isn’t the “future†we’re talking about. This is now—November to December 2009, folks.
Get your spoon out and get ready to dig in because something this tasty only comes along once a year!

Fishing Canada for Lake Trout
Just the idea of battling a huge lake trout lures anglers to all the remote lakes as far north as the Arctic Circle in Canada. These areas yield many 30 to 40 pound lunker lake trout each year.
In some areas in Canada, the lake trout are also called Mackinaw or grey trout, but the most common nickname given lake trout is simply lakers. Lake trout resemble brook trout, except the tails of lake trout are deeply forked, while those of the brook trout are nearly square. Lake trout in the Great Lakes are silvery-grey with white spots. Elsewhere, they have light spots on a background that may vary from dark green to brown or black.
Lake trout prefer water from 48 to 54F, colder than any other game fish. They will die if unable to find water under 65 degrees F. During summer month's lake trout will descend to 200 feet in search of cooler water.
There are many lakes with water cold enough for lake trout, but lack oxygen in their depths. And as a result lake trout are restricted to mainly the cold, sterile lakes of the Canadian Shield, the Great Lakes and deep mountain lakes of the west.
Lake trout grow slowly in these frigid waters. In some lakes in Canada, a 10-pound lake trout might be 20 years or older. The age of a trophy lake trout may be 40 years or more. Because they grow so slowly there is always the danger that they could be over harvested.
Unlike most other species lake trout spawn in lakes rather than in rivers. Lake trout spawning occurs in the fall over a bottom of baseball to football sized; rocks. Water depth varies, but is usually 5 to 25 feet.
Lake trout have excellent vision, but because of the poor light at the depths they live, they rely on their sense of smell and on their lateral line to find food. In some water, they feed mainly on aquatic insects, worms and crustaceans. In other lakes they eat only fish, mainly ciscoes, smelt, and sculpin.
A lake trout, brook trout hy-brid, called splake, has been stocked in some northern lakes including Lake Huron. Splake mature earlier than lake trout and grow faster so they are less affected by fishing pressure.
Early spring just after ice out, is a great time for lake trout, they crowd into warmer water to feed closer to shore and remain in water 20 to 30 feet deep.
When lake trout move into shallow water in the spring and in the fall just before spawning, the best methods are casting with flashy spoons or still fishing with natural baits like smelts and strips of sucker meat.
Lake trout shy away from dark heavy lines, so use clear, low diameter line from 8 to 12 pond test is best. Most fishermen prefer medium action spinning tackle.
In years past heavy reels and wire line was the standard for catching lake trout in deep water. But now with the new equipment and techniques it is possible to fish deep with much lighter tackle. Downriggers, sonar and technology has made fishing for deep lake trout a lot easier.
Deep lake trout are frequently scattered and sluggish, so adding an attractor, such as a dodger can improve your success while trolling.
Vertical jigging for lake trout is also a popular method in fishing Canada's north, works best with a lead head jig or vibrating blade. Simply lower the lure to the bottom; then reel it back up rapidly to get that strike.
Casting with heavy gold or silver spoons for lake trout is a proven technique when lake trout are concentrated off points, in narrows, along islands or over spawning reefs. Cast from a long distance away to prevent spooking the lake trout.
In the Great Lakes the lake trout have made a remarkable come-back after they were nearly wiped out by the sea lamprey and commercial fishing. Lake trout populations have been rebuilt by lamprey controls and restocking programs. These programs have been put in use both in Canada and the United States, both countries have been doing this for some time now and the lakes and anglers are enjoying the fruits of their efforts.

Question: What kind of bass tackle can I use for Steelhead Fishing?
I do have a small assortment of in-line spinners, spoons, and small plastics I started using for trout in NC. Now I live in Oregon and want to try for steelhead and was wondering what kind of artificial I can use that I already have. Jigs, small cranks, soft plastics? any ideas or techniques? Really don't want to go out and buy a bunch of new tackle. Rods and reels are no problem.
Answer: Welcome to the Pacific Northwest. The good news is...you are going to love fishing here. I am particularly fond of the Columbia River. The bad news is...salmon and Steelhead Fishing is a whole new ball game. I'm wouldn't bother trying to accomodate existing equipment and techniques...you are going to have to do some assimilation. As you already know, you have to head down to the river and spend time with the guys who fish a particular area...techniques and terminal tackle will vary even within a relatively limited stretch of the river. And, of course, there's no substitute for knowing the river.
Also, the trick here is how NOT to catch bass when you are after something else.

Question: Fishing Tackle Help...?
I'm going to get some tackle for sea and coarse fishing but I don't know what to get. I'm stuck between Spinners; Spoons; Plugs or Lures. I've basically just started fishing but I've learnt quite a lot and I've never used these 4 things so I don't kno the differences. ETC. Please Help.
Thanks.Answer: ive used all of these methods and there is one thing you have missed out and that is rubber jigs one of the best to catch pike( coarse fishing) but i find spinners the best on sea waters because for e.g the mackerel (sea fish) has Strong and faster eating power than a pike so they rip up the jigs so spinners are the all time favorite on any sea water for any fish.. but don't get me wrong these baits all work for pike every one of them. i suggest you should look on this website.
Spinners-are artificial fish like baits that imitate an injured fish with the spin effect and the flash.
Spoons- are like spinners but bigger that send of vibrations to attract the fish.
Plugs- are a plastic or wooden artificial bait that imitates a small or big fish and are more detailed and come in different varieties like some can be deep divers that have a plastic nose that makes it dive a certain depth.
Lures- are pretty much the same a plugs but are not as detailed and clever lures are again artificial and imitate the fish and can come in different varieties like they can float,dive,mid depth,and also can have Ball Bearings inside them to rattle and make a noise all of these baits are all different colours and imitate certain types of fish.
Rubber jigs- thes are the best for pike and perch fishing in my eyes these are so more realistic than any other baits for coarse fishing you would'nt use these for sea fishing because they get ripped to shreds unlikne pike only bite them and so do any other coarse fish. these are jelly that give a realistic imitation that is great and wobble and give real good actions in the water.

Question: what is the best test line to use when fishing for speckled trout and redfish?
bought a spoon lure and im going to use a 17 lb line, i think it might be too much and might not cast very far
Answer: On most of my rods I have 12lb Mono. If I'm fishing a tournament and money is on the line I use 1.5ft of 25lb Florocarbon leader. On a couple of my rods I have 30lb braid. So to answer your question 17lb mono is a little heavy, I would use 12-15lb and maybe a leader. 90% of trout you catch will be under 5lbs and a 15-30lb redfish can still be caught if you use your drag. I've caught big stuff on 12lb line

I am trying to make my own fishing spoons. For those of you who do not know what it is:www.make-your-own-fishing-lures.com/images/fishing-spoons.jpg
It has a concave body but a convex tapered end.
My plan is to make it out of thin metal sheets but I have no idea how to "mold" it into that shape. What im thinking is I gouge the spoon shape into a piece of 2x4 wood then lay a piece of oval metal sheet over it then hammer it until it takes on the shape. Do you guys have any other suggestions? Are there other materials I could use to "mold" the shape instead of wood?

Spoons are a pretty precise lure, albeit uncomplicated appearance. Put it this way, if you don't have your lateral bend centered, you're gonna end up making spinners instead of spoons....
