Question: Will my computer be able to handle this? (recording music)?
I just bought Cakewalk Sonar 6 XL and Reason 2.5 and looking to record about 8 full songs with a full band. (so i'm probably talking 16 to 20 tracks each) My computer is a Dell Inspirion and has 80GB capacity but only has 45GB left, and also has 1GB RAM. It has an Intel Core Duo Processor at 1.66GHz. I want to try to get close to professional sounding recording. I have a firewire interface and other professional instruments and such, i am just worried that i my computer can or can not handle it. I know I need a portable hardrive, but will I have to upgrade the RAM and such or do you think i can do it without upgrading RAM and such. Thank you!
Answer: You need a lot of RAMS to run reason and sonar. Because you will be dealing with wave files, you will need an extra storage drive just for your music and data.
If you are serious about music recording. I would not recommend having your system do to many task. There are two types of system, a music studio recording and a play computer.
You need to separate the two.
I have one that only does music. Rarely do I have my system go to the Internet. Only for updates.I have another one that I use for surfing, word, chat, and what not.

Question: Getting professional results from labtop recording...?
I am wondering, can I get professional and clear audio recording from my labtop. I have upgraded the heck out of my labtop. I have a Dell Inspirion E1505 with windows XP Media Center. I have 3GB's of RAM, a 320GB 7200RPM Western Digital harddrive in it, and Intel Core Duo 1.66 processor. I will be using Cakewalk Sonar 8 Producer Edition, and will be using a Presonus firepod 10 for recording through firewire. I will have later a 500GB portable Harddrive. What do you guys thinks. Can I get great recordings. I really don't want to spend money on getting a desktop when i did all this to my labtop. I want to start a recording studio and be able to produce recording that sound like them from a decent studio. what do you think. Thanks
Answer: Ehh if you're really into it, you might consider buying a higher end sound card (input device) and nice microphone. You'll probably only find these for desktops. But most laptops and desktops come with decent equipment as is. It depends what media you're targeting.
Edit: It is a myth that you need a Mac to do excellent audio mastering. Mac's are essentially PCs these days anyways. Invest your money in the sound board/mic/hardware, not the Mac.
