What flies do you prefer for the following fish:
Bass
Trout
Perch

PikeAnswer: Bass -- Streamers, Clauser's Minnows, and Woolly Buggers in sizes appropriate to the anticipated fish (usually #10 up to #6). Occasionally terrestrial dries like hoppers and crickets will work, but only if you observe the bass coming to the surface.
Trout -- Most flies will catch trout, you just have to match the fly to the situation, weather, hatch, etc., but you're asking which flies I prefer, so I prefer to catch trout with Elk Hair Caddis. I love the look of the pattern, love tying my own, love how it sits in the water, and I love the times of the year it's fished. Other favorites include all kinds of mayflies, Adams, and midges. This morning I went to my home stream and caught 6 browns 12-14 inches and one big whitefish on #14 Glo Bug egg patterns (yellow with pink yolk to imitate whitefish spawn).
Perch, sunfish, walleye -- See "Bass," above. Walleye love fast-moving lures, so I usually use spinning tackle for them. Perch, sunfish, and bluegill will go for small streamers, Woolly Buggers and the occasional worm/leech pattern.
Steelhead -- I have only ever fished for steelhead with salmon flies handed to me by the guy who was informally guiding me. Don't really have a "preference" per se.
Pike -- Have never fished for pike on any kind of tackle, but I have fished and caught tiger muskie, which is a genetic cross between northern pike and muskie. They go for very large, long, and flashy streamers on sinking line, stripped in fast. When they strike, buckle up, please return your seat to the upright position, and hang on.

Fly Fishing Canadian Style
Canada is a beautiful country with so many places where you can practice the "art" of fly fishing with some very satisfying results. Fly fishing in Canada can not only give you the experience of catching a diverse variety of fish, but it also gives you the beauty and scenery that can ease your stresses and make for a very satisfying fishing experience.
The northern reaches of Canada have exceptional fishing for pike, salmon, and legendary brook trout. With the exception of Lake Michigan, all the Great Lakes have a Canadian shore. Southwestern Ontario is surrounded by Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake Huron, and Georgian Bay.
Rivers like the Saugeen, Maitland, Grand, Credit, and Nottawasaga would be famous if they flowed through U.S. soil, but they are relatively obscure because they are in an area not noted for its fly-fishing heritage. Local anglers are more apt to go north to chase walleye, pike, and bass in lakes despite the quality river fishing on their doorsteps.
There are intimate trout streams in this area of Canada with wild fish and top-notch tail waters with big, educated brown trout. Ontario's smallmouth rivers equal any river bass fishery in the world, and there are dozens of rivers with steelhead and salmon runs that rival those in the United States.
An added incentive to fish this area is that you don't have to travel far into the wilderness. Accommodations, restaurants, guides, tackle shops, and other entertainment options are abundant. Canadian currency is also weaker than the U.S., so your dollars stretch farther north of the border.
The Grand and the Conestogo rivers are two tail water fisheries in southern Ontario that offer excellent access to good populations of feisty brown trout. The Grand is designated a Canadian Heritage River and has seen an unbelievable transformation over the last 20 years.
Water quality improvements, top-notch management, beautiful scenery, and a solid stocking program have made it one of the top destinations for brown trout in the East. But be advised, its one thing to find a big fish feeding but quite another to consistently fool these old browns.
The management philosophy of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is to work toward strong wild fisheries. Therefore, a majority of the steelhead in Ontario is wild fish, and you will have your hands full trying to subdue them. Depending on water conditions, strong runs of fish are common throughout the fall in just about any Great Lakes tributary in southern Ontario.
You can find some amazing fly fishing in Canada when you take the time to look for it. Not only will you be met with some beautiful scenery, but you will be landing some great fish. Question: how do I tweak the tension on my sewingmachine. I am using invisable thread and the top tread keep snapping.?
Its an ordinary sewing machine with a bobbin etc. the thread looks like very Light Fishing line. Its fantastic and i dont have to keep changing the colour of the thread to match the garment I am working on. Anyone any general tips for working with this wonderful thread. thanks
Answer: Polyester monofilament invisible thread does not go brittle, or yellow over time or melt at low temperature.
You may have to adjust the tension for the bobbin and for the needle.
Test sew using scrap fabric before sewing the intended item.

Question: My Fish are ill why?
My clown loach, that i recently got, infected my tank with white spot. thats been treated and the spots have gone and no other fish looks like they have it. but since then my loach seems really depresssed and unactive. he just hides and doesnt come out, not even for food!! he has never been like this. And yes i did put the correct amount of white spot medication in. i have done a 50 - 75% water change and clean everything. Also my betta isnt lookin very well either he has a white line above his mouth. i dont think its mouth fungus. he hasnt been well for a while. i dont know what to do. im thinking ab0out putting him aanother tank with less agressive fish but then i think the stress of moving him might kill him. please help. i want to sort it out today if possible. I recently got a pakistani loach, could that be one of the answers? And also does anyone know why he changes colour, sometimes he has no pattern other times he has?
Answer: If you're going to use tea tree oil, just get regular tea tree oil and dilute it. It's a lot cheaper if you get the real thing from an herbal shop.
Your fish may just be suffering from depressed immune systems and stress from the meds. Medicating fish is hard on them, even if it does cure the disease they were sick with. Recovering from any illness is never easy.
Also, have you taken readings of your tank lately? Many medications that you use in your tank to treat your fish will kill off the beneficial bacteria and create nitrate, nitrite and/or ammonia spikes that are toxic to fish. All of these things can stress them out and affect their health and behavior. Keep up your water changes (although a little less would be less stressful for your fish; 20-25% is enough) and just nurse them through it. If you have a healthy tank that was not medicated, maybe you can move some things around from that one into the ailing tank(s) to kick start some bacteria growth in case you are suffering a mini-cycle.
I'm no expert on loaches, but lots of fish change color and patterns depending on whether they are ready to spawn or not and how healthy/happy they are. Have you researched this fish? Give it a try. Good luck.

Answer: Coming from their belly, near the tail? That's poop. Don't worry about it. Just skim it out of the water when it breaks off or clean out the bowl every few days.

Question: how do I reduce amonnia & nitrate in a gold fish tank.?
I think one of my fish is suffering from amonnia burns. His mouth & tails have got black lines on the edges. They are new fish for my son so we need help on how to look after these. We live in Turkey & find it hard to get a good fish dealership with products/good advise. Also when at the place I bought them from I asked for a product to eliminate chlorine from the water. The man said just to use tap water but to let in stand for 24 hrs prior to adding to tank. will this work.
Answer: it may work, but if you have other toxins or chloramines in the water it will not, so you may want to get some conditioner anyway.
