Question: Eagle Lake - Fishing Lures?
Our family is going to Eagle Lake this week and I was wondering about some different lures for fishing.
Here are the fish that are in Eagle Lake:Muskie

CrappieWhat are some cheap, yet effective lures we can use? (We would prefer to not use Live Bait.)
Answer: Quite the selection of fish in the lake. I would suggest that you perhaps have a couple of each of the following. I would also suggest that you pay a visit to a local Bait shop & ask them what the fish in Eagle Lakes are hitting on. They would have a much better answer than anyone here will be able to provide, unless someone here has fished that same lake.

Freshwater Fishing - Summer Creek Fishing Techniques
By early summer, river and creek fishing has undergone enormous changes. Gone are cool water temperatures and shortages of food. Most species of fish have finished spawning and develop a fairly consistent appetite.
For anglers, most creek fishing is limited only by access, weather and water levels. Shore bound anglers have much more vegetation to content with. This can be a considerable problem, especially in areas where trees, reeds or tall brush grows along the shoreline. Some shore anglers use waders to gain access, while others seek out open areas and avoid areas that include dense foliage.
Boaters and kayakers have more access but often find fishing to be best near the shoreline, especially near dense cover. Summer creek environments usually require less travel time and more fishing for boaters and fish occupy more areas. For small, shallow creeks, fishing kayaks are especially useful as they can go where other boats cannot.
Summer anglers find a wide range of species in local creeks and rivers. Species such as largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, rock bass, crappie, sunfish, Yellow Perch, catfish and pickerel are all very active in many American creeks. Depending on the species desired or personal preference, anglers rely on baits or cast artificial lures to entice fish.
For species such as sunfish, crappie, perch and other panfish, one favorite technique involves mimicking local food sources that fall from tree branches of shoreline vegetation. Casting small jigs near overhanging limbs will often draw strikes from predators that are lurking underneath, waiting for insects or other prey to land near the surface.
During the low light periods of early morning or late day, surface lures such as poppers, topwater plugs or other noisy, commotion-causing lures often work well. During these times, top predators such as musky, pike, pickerel and largemouth bass lurk near submerged structures such as fallen trees, stumps or dense cover, waiting to ambush prey struggling on the surface.
These summer tactics work in most small and slow moving bodies of water such as creeks, canals and minor rivers. Until fall arrives, fishing in these areas is consistent and action-filled.

I'm in Texas where the catfish are huge so I use a medium or sometimes heavy action rod. However, I was born and raised in northern Michigan where there are plenty of large muskie and pike.You might want to get a stainless steel leader. The pike have sharp teeth that line the entire top of their mouths. Regular line is too weak.
I used to catch huge muskie and pike on a $3 Zebco rod & reel in the 1960's. Anything that gets the job done. Right?

Answer: The best ice fishing bait I ever came across for multi species is the rapala jigging rap. I would recommend though for pike, bass, muskie one of the bigger sizes and for pan fish a smaller size. If you are fishing in deep water use shinny or florescent colors while in shallow use any color you fell like. And don't forget to putt a minnow or wax worm on it for bait. If you are just going out after pike and muskie use a "tip up" with a sucker minnow or a regular minnow for bait.

Question: how to buy a musky (muskie) rod?
i use top water cranks spinners jerks just about all kind of lures how do you know what size rod you should get and stuff like that
Answer: Im not a big musky guy but do a lot of fishing and can give you some advice.
The musky are of course a big hard fighting fish so you want a decently big and durable setup. I dont know if you like spincast or baitcast reels but a baitcaster will probably be the smarter bet. You'll need a rod/reel that will at LEAST hold 20 pound line. I prefer the baitcasters over the spincast reels for larger fish because they'll generally handle heavy pound line better than the spincasts.
As for your rod you'll want medium/heavy action or a heavy action. It'll give you better and stronger hook sets and will be able to handle these big fish. Ive had catfish snap a medium action rod like nothing and the muskies are much more eratic in the water than a catfish so if it were me id get a heavy action. A 6'5-7'0 rod will be a good length.

When using bucktails, I would think blacks, yellows, and whites would probably be the best.
Instead of just tossing big spinners for them, try big wooden plugs also. You'll probably have more luck using a ten-inch Drifter Tackle Believer in Glitter Perch or a thirteen-inch Grandma Classic Lure in either Perch or Firetiger colors than you would on a big bucktail.
