Question: can I use a splitshot?
When fishing with Hard Body topwaters like poppers, dog walkers, and prop baits, can I add a little splitshot weight for casting distance without sinking the lure? will it effect the lures action? If I can do this where on the line should I add the weight?
If I can't do this, could I make the lure heavier by replacing the back Treble Hook with a heavier denser Treble Hook?
Answer: the problem seems to lie in your casting rather than the weight of the lure. you need to go with a lighter rod and line as well as a better reel. one that is designed to work well with smaller lures.
a shimano citica filled with 8lb NYLON MONO (fluorocarbon is not suitable for topwaters) and a medium or medium light rod (rated for 8 to 15 or 17lb line.
a citica is a good entry level casting reel for lighter lures. about 120 bucks. and a BPS bionic blade rod will work well with it. at times on sale for 50 bucks. clear maxima or "sufix" siege line. you may get by with 10lb.
you will immediately notice a BIG difference in casting range.

Question: Largemouth Bass hit and miss... Help!!!!!?
Ok, today I was fishing at a new spot and supposedly the fish there are bigger than the ones I have been catching. Well, I kept getting slammed on a Storm Hopper Popper but I could never hook up! I must have gotten 10 hit-n-spits today. It was so frustrating. What could be the cause of this? Could the lure be to small or might it be something else?

You guys, they spit before I even react. I never set up today because I never hooked the damn fish lol. I'm not going to use bigger hooks, I'm going to use a bigger lure tomorrow. I may be new to Freshwater Fishing but I'm not an idiot lol.Answer: You're hooks are probably too small. Change them out for treble hooks two sizes larger, preferrably with a longer shank. That is a rather small lure for bass, and they come with small hooks to "show off" the lure. Most lures do.

Question: how to buy a musky (muskie) rod?
i use top water cranks spinners jerks just about all kind of lures how do you know what size rod you should get and stuff like that
Answer: Im not a big musky guy but do a lot of fishing and can give you some advice.
The musky are of course a big hard fighting fish so you want a decently big and durable setup. I dont know if you like spincast or baitcast reels but a baitcaster will probably be the smarter bet. You'll need a rod/reel that will at LEAST hold 20 pound line. I prefer the baitcasters over the spincast reels for larger fish because they'll generally handle heavy pound line better than the spincasts.
As for your rod you'll want medium/heavy action or a heavy action. It'll give you better and stronger hook sets and will be able to handle these big fish. Ive had catfish snap a medium action rod like nothing and the muskies are much more eratic in the water than a catfish so if it were me id get a heavy action. A 6'5-7'0 rod will be a good length.

Question: Lure color preference for muskie?
I am new to musky fishing and am planning to pick it up this coming summer.
I mainly intend to cast bucktails and am wondering what are some good colors/types.

Also, where would be a good place to buy the type of bucktail listed?Answer: Good places to purchase the bucktails is Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's. Cabela's offers (in my opinion) more stuff in the names of northern fishing.
When using bucktails, I would think blacks, yellows, and whites would probably be the best.
Instead of just tossing big spinners for them, try big wooden plugs also. You'll probably have more luck using a ten-inch Drifter Tackle Believer in Glitter Perch or a thirteen-inch Grandma Classic Lure in either Perch or Firetiger colors than you would on a big bucktail.

Answer: Yes they die reason when brackish water fishes are kept in fresh water they start gaining water as the salt content in their body is more than that of the fresh water so the water from the tank will rush in to the fishes body. This will result in the swelling of the fishes blood vessels and eventually burst

Answer: No. If their name does mean that they are from the sea (Salt water) there is a good chance that they will die within a few hours of immersion into the freshwater.
HOWEVER, there are certain species that can live easily in both salt and fresh water. Look up the species of your snail and read if it can be introduced to freshwater.

Question: spring musky fishing?
im excited that spring is coming and have bought/gotten a whole lot of new lures and a musky rod and reel. But for spring why is it bad to use big slow moving lures rather than small ones. Does topwater work in spring too?
from my knowledge the fish are less active in spring because theyre still slow and groggish from winter so i think they are less active and lazyAnswer: Most of the food muskies eat in the spring / early summer is smaller. The fish are targeting the natural forage available to them and its mostly smaller baitfish. It's a "match the hatch" thing. Topwater will work sometimes...I would only use topwater in low-light situations..i.e. early & late or on overcast calm days. Good luck...I've never had much luck in the spring but fish can be caught then.
