Answer: different lines require different knots as each knot gives each line different line strength. For example, double palomar for braided is best because braid slips if you use other knots. For fluorocarbon use trilene knot. For monofilament use improved clinch knot.

Question: Fly Fishing: A question about using more than one fly on your leader?
I have only ever fished with a single fly on my leader, however when using more than one fly on your leader, are the flies attached a various points in a straight line on the leader, or do you attach more leader to the main leader using dropper loops? I'm guessing that in the case of nymphs, it would make more sense to me to have the heaviest fly on the tip of the leader perhaps.
Answer: don't bother you will spend most of your time untying bird nests or setting up a new rig. you could look up the new zealand method of tying 4-6ft of line off the bend of the hook once of twice but i do not like this method or you could tie a half blood knot at the head of each fly but i feel personally Both methods effect your chances of hooking a fish and if you do get a fish hooked your leader may be too long to land it. google new zealand method there is a web site with a number of methods as well as the fore mentioned.

Question: Fly fishing: I have an 8'6'' quality rod 6WT but need a good reel.?
Can I use a 7/8 reel on a 6WT fly rod. If not then do I have to match the rod with a 6. I'm new to this sort of rig and dont really know the terminology well enough to select the right balanced outfit. Can someone help please
Answer: The reel shouldn't make too much of an impact on the fishing. However i would suggest you get a reel rated for a 6WT rod-simply since one for a 7/8wt line will be heavy and unbalance the rod when casting.
If you really want to use the 7/8wt reel then more backing will allow a 6wt line to be spooled, but you have the issue of the excess weight of the reel and the general size of it.
If you want an ultra light, tough reel thats very reasonably priced for what you get and will last a lifetime look no futher than the Orvis Battenkill, they offer world wide shipping too

Answer: well if its freshwater it should be fine, salt water won't do much damage if it is a salt water reel, but never submerge you reel for a long time just because that's a stupid thing to do.
they should be fine as long as you give all of your tackle (flies that you used to if you want to be really safe) a good rinse from your hose when you get home from a trip and you should be fine
avoid getting spinning/bait casting reels wet though because they have a lot of moving parts in them

Question: Friends for life?
I grew up in a small town, where there were maybe 7 kids near my age. Well a few years ago, my best friend growing up and I got into a falling out, a real ugly one. We have three other friends who live in the same area (1300 miles from where we grew up) that we do now. I've made contact via Myspace with all of them (who are also in contact with him), but for the last 6 months none of them are talking to me. In itself that's not a problem, But his two daughters (10 and 7) (and who I've raised since they were 10mo's and 3) are starting to have problems with me also. I get this sinking feeling that I'm up(blank) creek here, and I just want to tell them all (including my wife who drinks everyother night) to take a flying leap. And I sure as hell would not leave my Daughter behind. It's long, complicated, and I need help. Answer what you can help with.

Great Hiking Trails in North Texas: Look Just North to Beavers Bend Resort Park
If you are looking for great hiking trails in North Texas, consider Beavers Bend Resort Park in southeastern Oklahoma. It is just 3 hours from the Dallas/Fort Worth area (the Metroplex) by car. Beavers Bend Resort Park includes Beavers Bend State Park which offers free admission. The resort offers serious nature lovers the chance to hike along ridge tops, over creek bottoms, through tall stands of timber, and into areas so remote one can almost experience what early-day explorers must have felt upon seeing the area for the first time, at its pristine best.
McCurtain County features some of the most beautiful territory in the country. The Ouachita Mountains rise and fall dramatically along the lower reaches of the Oklahoma-Arkansas line, which is densely covered with one of the oldest short-leaf pine forests in the world, as well as heavy populations of hickory and oak. Unlike most American mountain ranges, the mountains run east and west, not north and south. Cursing through those rugged ranges are several lakes and rivers, the Little, Mountain Fork, Upper Kiamichi, Poteau and Broken Bow.
The area was named by LIFE magazine as one of the "100 Places To Visit in Your Lifetime" and Dallas Observers voted McCurtain County the "Best Getaway from Dallas."
You can pick up trail maps at the park's nature center. There are seven trails you have to choose from, one for every skill level - from serious stroller to avid trekker.
Trail #1: Take-it-easy route. The South Park trail. 1 mile. For those who want to stay on level ground. Watch eagles fly overhead and wildlife scatter as you stroll by.
Trail #2: The Easy-Does-It Hike. The Junction with South Park. 1 mile. Also a good choice for those who want a less intensive hike and want to get "back to nature" but just a little while.
Trail #3: Beyond Beginner. Beaver Creek Crossing. 1. 5 miles. A bit more challenging. Several steep climbs.
Trail #4: Beyond beginner but not intermediate. Deer Cross - Cedar Bluff. About 2 miles. Some climbs, but not extremely steep.
Trail #5: Walk on the wild side. Cedar Bluff - Beaver Lodge Trail. 6 miles. Lots of steep grades. Designed for the more serious hiker.
Trail #6: Born to hike. Skyline. 6 miles. Steep terrain. Experienced hikers only. If you don't have time to take the longest route (see below), the Skyline is the next best option. More challenging to some than the Cedar Bluff, nevertheless, you'll need to be able to withstand elevation hiking. But the views you'll see will be well worth the climb.
Trail #7: The extreme challenge. The David Boren Hiking Trail, named after the U.S. senator and former governor of Oklahoma. The David Boren Trail offers 16 miles of hiking Trails with 4 miles of multi-purpose ( mountain bike) trails that wander along ridge tops and over creek bottoms. The 12 mile Boren hiking trail runs from south to north. Starts at the low-water dam at the south end of Beavers Bend and then connects with the Beaver Lodge Nature Trail, full of steep grades. The trail is well defined and is a narrow, one-person trail - which means no bicyclists to watch out for.
Where do you stay if you travel to the Beavers Bend Resort Park? Glad you asked! The park is home to the forty-room Lakeview Lodge, and there are forty-seven different Beavers Bend cabins. Is camping more your style? The park also offers RV and tent camping. In McCurtain County, your weekend hiking getaway can include almost any kind of lodging - from a rustic cottage to elegantly-appointed log cabins nestled in the towering pines to a unique bed & breakfasts, modern motels and luxury resorts.
So, if you are looking for great hiking trails in North Texas - either for yourself or to accompany your family or that special someone - the Beavers Bend Resort Park is a great option. Question: bait caster fishing reel gear ratio?
this will be my first bait caster reel and i am wondering if i should get a 6.4:1 gear ratio or a 5.2:1 gear ratio. my spinning reel is a 5.1:1. Most of my fishing is done off the shores with top water baits, small spinners, and all kinds of plastics.
Answer: The answer will depend on your personal preferences. For example, some people like to use a faster reel for topwater because they like to take up the slack quicker (and this depends on the technique you are using and also your personal style.) I would go with the faster ratio if you like to move your baits quicker and slower if you dont typically "burn" your baits through the water. I like using a slower reel for plastics (and as a result, I have several reels that cover the whole range but that isnt necessary unless you are very specific about the techniques that you will be using.) One question to ask is do you like using your slower spinning reel for your style of fishing? If the answer is yes then go ahead and pickup the 5:2:1. If you are missing fish on topwaters because you cant get the slack out of your line fast enough then go with the 6:4:1. I would recommend buying the most expensive baitcaster you can afford because quality seems to make more of a difference with baitcasters than with spinning reels. Question: What is the best Bass Rod for under $50 and best line?
I have a decent baitcasting reel that holds 10, 12 ,14# line. I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations on the best medium action 6' Bass Rod preferably under $50?...Also...does braided line perform as well as monofilament in terms of backlash on a baitcaster?
Answer: You will have several brands to choose from in that price range.The All Star rod is a good one.Then there is the lightning rods, And the 25 dollar rod that Academy Sporting goods sells is not a bad buy.It's the store brand rod called the Premier, I believe.And mono is the better choice for casting and removal of backlashes. Plus your reels will last a lot longer if you never use the braided line. When you set the hook in a log or snag thinking its a fish, something has to give. Since the braided line doesn't, it's usually the gears in your reel.Others may love the braid because of the hook setting edge it may have over the mono, but sooner or later, they will be buying another reel a lot quicker then they want to.
