Question: What is a baitcast reel and how do you cast it?
Answer: A baitcaster is a real that sits on top of your rod as opposd to a spinning reel that hangs below. It can be used with lures OR bait. The lines comes off the reel in a level fashion--not unwound sideways like a spinning reel. With spinning reels you can get line twist, which tangles your line. Since baitcasters' line comes off without twisting, you don't have that problem. It takes more pactice to use a baitcaster and you can't cast into the wind without backlashing--very annoying.
I use both--each has it's own advantages. I prefer the baitcaster. It is lighter (less fatigue) and has a smaller profile easier to handle.

Question: Baitcast reel - Why turn sideways at end of cast?
On a variety of websites, I have read that when casting with a bait caster, at the end of the cast the reel should be turned "sideways" with the handle on top. Why is this?
Answer: A few years ago before there were so many improvements to the anti- back lashing features of the bait casters this was a method that helped out the back lashing problems of the older reels at that time. The instruction papers that came with the reels mentioned and would show in pictures this method to help out on the birds nest problems of the earlier reels. But now you can disregard this as something that helped out in the dark ages of bait casting. Today's reels are almost like casting a spin cast. You can go down to beetle spin lures and still cast them with the right line and the right rod. But in the old days it was almost impossible to cast any lure less then 1/2 ounce any distance if at all.

Question: i don't know if i should buy power pro or stren super braid for my fishing reel?
its a quantum baitcast reel but i dont know which one is better?
Answer: I prefer P-Line braid. But remember to put some monofilament or flourocarbon line on as a backer or you will find a problem with your whole spool of line slipping. I had this problem on a Shimano reel. A friend (and guide) suggested that I put on a some mono for the first 1/8 of your spool and then tie on your braid to the backing line. You won't have the slippage that way. Out of those choices I would go with the Power-Pro

Question: Fishing Reels?
What is the difference in the Fishing Reels? Theres a baitcast, spincast, crappie, and spinning.
Answer: baitcast are the type you see most bass fishermen using, and are typical saltwater reels. Spinning are the type that have the spool exposed and use a wire "bail" to hold the line in place when youre not casting. You say "crappie" and spincast and I think youre talking about the same thing. Another style of spinning that has its spool covered, usually with a button release for casting. Like a kids snoopy fishing pole.

Question: good Fishing Lures in az?
i live in az and fish urban lakes and lakes in pinetop (North) and have a baitcast reel and am having trouble finding heavy enough lures to cast with my reel and ideas....i already have lipless cranks and i dont want super big lures just average size but heavier.
Answer: Don't change up your approach or tactics because of your reel, man. Get a different reel for your light stuff! Like a spinning or fly reel. I like smaller shimano spinning reels for light jigs, floating raps, etc. And you might want to try a lighter action rod also. A lighter action casting rod will make it easier to whip the light stuff out there. But if you can't change your rod/reel, i would stick with whatever cranks you can throw with it and maybe some heavier jigs. You can also try spinnerbaits of an adequate weight. Oh and cranks that have a rattle inside seem to be on the heavier side it seems, since they use a metallic ball in there frequently. But usually you have to up the size to increase weight. And with jigs you are increasing sinking speed and thus changing your presentation.

Spincast, spinning, or baitcast? brands and models also if you care to.
Answer: spinning reels i really like quantum(ultra lites) and shimano(for bass and other larger fish).as far as baitcasters i like abu garcia(ambasaduer series),quantum(iron series),and penn reels for big fish fishing.preferably the 209 and 309 levelwind.
with the penns i can fish freshwater for big cats as well as fish from the peirs in the gulf for big bull reds and shark.

Question: How do you use a bait cast reel?
i dont know how to cast it and dont know what the dial with the numbers are for any info pon useing them would be helpful thanks
what makes a bait cast reel better than spineng and spin castAnswer: the key to learning how to use a bait cast reel is remembering that the spool of line is controled by your thumb, click the button to "unlock the spool" rike a regular reel, but instead of casting as you hit the button, hold the spool with your thumb, and to cast, just release your thumb off of the spool. another important thing to remember, and can be tricky at first, is that just slightly prior to the bait touching the water, stop the spool from spinning using your thumb again. when you start to reel in the bait, as with any other reel, the spool will lock, or "click" to were is start to reel in the bait. start out slow, and it doesnt take real long to get the basics down. those are the basics, there are also issues of the weight of the bait as opposed to the magnetic breaking system, but learn the basics first, and remember,when casting, if you dont stop the bait with your thumb, and the water stops the bait, your spool will continue to spin, and cause a big mess and headache, because the spool will "birdsnest" youll see what im talking about when you see it.
in my experiance with baitcasters, i have noticed that you have much more percision and control with a baitcaster. They are meant to be used primarily for artificial baits when Freshwater Fishing, i dont recomend using a bobber rig with those reels.

Question: is a bait casting reel better for distance casting?
I'm a novice surf fisherman and I've been using a spinning reel but I think if I switch over to a bait casting reel it will help my distance, can anyone add to this?
Answer: Yes you will cast farther. I cast 125yrd average and much more when I really need to. Buying the right surf rod and reel can be a tricky part. I use a 10ft and a 12ft rod. The tip strength of the surf rod is the key to your casting distance while tossing out chunks of bait with a big surf weight attached. There are quite a few choices on reels, but one that holds allot of line is a must.
