Question: How do you use a bait cast reel?
i dont know how to cast it and dont know what the dial with the numbers are for any info pon useing them would be helpful thanks
what makes a bait cast reel better than spineng and spin castAnswer: the key to learning how to use a bait cast reel is remembering that the spool of line is controled by your thumb, click the button to "unlock the spool" rike a regular reel, but instead of casting as you hit the button, hold the spool with your thumb, and to cast, just release your thumb off of the spool. another important thing to remember, and can be tricky at first, is that just slightly prior to the bait touching the water, stop the spool from spinning using your thumb again. when you start to reel in the bait, as with any other reel, the spool will lock, or "click" to were is start to reel in the bait. start out slow, and it doesnt take real long to get the basics down. those are the basics, there are also issues of the weight of the bait as opposed to the magnetic breaking system, but learn the basics first, and remember,when casting, if you dont stop the bait with your thumb, and the water stops the bait, your spool will continue to spin, and cause a big mess and headache, because the spool will "birdsnest" youll see what im talking about when you see it.
in my experiance with baitcasters, i have noticed that you have much more percision and control with a baitcaster. They are meant to be used primarily for artificial baits when Freshwater Fishing, i dont recomend using a bobber rig with those reels.

Question: is a bait casting reel better for distance casting?
I'm a novice surf fisherman and I've been using a spinning reel but I think if I switch over to a bait casting reel it will help my distance, can anyone add to this?
Answer: Yes you will cast farther. I cast 125yrd average and much more when I really need to. Buying the right surf rod and reel can be a tricky part. I use a 10ft and a 12ft rod. The tip strength of the surf rod is the key to your casting distance while tossing out chunks of bait with a big surf weight attached. There are quite a few choices on reels, but one that holds allot of line is a must.
