Question: My inflatable is rated for 1.5hp motor, can I rig a bigger motor with little modifications?
I have the avenger III inflatable boat for 3 people. It is rated for about 330lb and a 1.5hp motor. Is there any chance I could use a 3 to 5 hp motor on it with a little modification? Maybe cut Styrofoam in the back or something like that. I currently use a trolling motor 36lb thrust and it is too slow. I love my inflatable and it's very stable. I only use this boat for myself and my fishing gear, so I do not go over the weight rated. Any suggestions on this?
Answer: you are stuck with the max rated hp of 1.5. legally you cannot run with higher hp (could lead to a big fine if caught). and the rating is from the mfg because higher hp could destroy your inflatable and while you love its stability at non planning speed, it may be very unstable at higher speed.
if you desire more speed, suggest that you trade up to a larger inflatable that is designed and rated for a larger motor.

WHICH ONE SHOULD I BUY FOR AN ULTRA LIGHT TROUT STREAM FISHING REEL???
Answer: Okuma Avenger. They make an Avenger reel small enough for stream trout fishing? Most Okuma Avenger's are sized for fish up to 30lb or more. I'd check out some of those Pflueger Micro reels. Those should work great for stream trout. Match it up with a nice Berkley Cherrywood ultra-light rod and some 2lb or 4lb mono.

Question: Okuma Avenger Bait-Feeder?
I'm taking a liking to this Okuma Avenger bait-Feeder Reel. Has a nice line capacity (not a huge shark sized one but the perfect size for the carp/cats i catch), good reviews, and cost $49! That's 1/3 of a Shimano Bait-Runner. Sure it's not going to be as smooth or dependable as the Shimano but I think it will get the job done.
I also prefer spinning reels over any other type for carp fishing. Also with it having a bait-feeder option, it was made for carp/cats!
Probably will pair it up with an Ugly Stick, 7' medium action if I can find one.
the reel also has a 4.7 rating on Cabela's website! You can't get much better!

Answer: I purchased an Okuma Epixor once, (not the Bait-feeder version). It was a solid reel- smooth- good distance casting-the whole 9 yards.
The problem?
After about 3 months of heavy fishing the bail spring got worn and it would not close automatically-OR WORSE, the bail would trip just before your cast launching & losing your lure.
After losing lures because of premature bail trip I vowed to NEVER purchase another spinning reel that didn't have a "sure-click" on the bail wire.
Pflueger & Shimano are the only company's providing a sure-click system, (although Daiwa has something similar).
I don't know what the bait-Feeder Reel will be like......
When you go to purchase it stick it on a rod and do some false casting in the store. If the bail wire trips on a power cast save your money for a Shimano. .......

Question: Okuma Epixor Fishing Reel?
Anyone have any experience with an OKUMA EPIXOR? I am considering purchasing one and interested to know how they perform.
ThanksAnswer: When I first started getting serious about fishing about three years ago, everyone I talked to said, "Buy Shimano, Buy Shimano.", so I bought a 4500 baitrunner... After using it for a while, I decided to try the Okuma Epixor EF 30. I now own 1 Shimano and 10 Epixors, ranging from an EF20 to an EB80, and I fish them hard.. The EF 30 has landed more Redfish than I can count, and the EB 80 has a 5 ft. Bonnethead shark to its credit. Dollar for dollar, the Epixor is a much better buy. The shimano now gathers dust in the cabinet and the Epixors are on the rods. Good luck in your decision.
