Question: what's the best marine chartplotter gps in terms of accuracy, ease of use, upgrade options and best price?
Answer: I have to agree, I use many types of electronics doing boat deliveries and my favorite is the Raymaine series. They have the C, E, and now the G series in up to 12 inch displays. They are very user friendly and accurate. One display can show up to 4 different things at one time, like a chartplotter, a depth finder, radar and other things that you can hook up including a forward looking infrared for night use. Very user friendly and intuitive. Northstar makes great unit also but I find its not as easy to use and the display is not as good as the Ray unit (my opinion).

Question: how far can we go out on the ocean in a 27 foot bow-rider?
From what we understand, our 27 foot Azure open bow-rider may not be acceptable for trailering to the Pacific to go boating. If we do decide to trailer it down from Colorado, how many miles can we travel away from shore safely. As you may have guessed, we have no experience with the ocean. Our boat is equipped with a 300 horse power stern-drive motor, GPS chartplotter, 70 gal. fuel tank, and VHF radio.
Answer: Since you didn't say it was a "Open Bow" in your last question, here's what I recommend.
1. Buy a Bow Cover from the dealer for your model and use it. This will repel most of the water when it comes over the bow.
2. Don't venture any farther than 5 miles out until you learn to read the waves and swells that I mentioned in the previous answer.
3. In really rough water, keep the nose "UP" on the bow and attack the waves in that manner. In some cases you'll need to "Quarter" the swells and waves.
4. Learn to work the throttle to power "UP" the wave and power "Down" on the other side of the wave. This will keep the nose up and minimize "Scooping" water with the bow.Doesn't matter what you have onboard the boat, when the boat Swamps or Flips, you won't have time to use any of it. Bowrider boats aren't good boats for the Pacific Ocean. Good lake boats though.
I have taken a Bowrider out as far as 25 miles in the past, but it was set up with the bow cover and I have DECADES of experience of boat handling. I don't recommend this for the inexperienced boater. I've seen too many come back drowned when the boat swamped and flipped.
