Question: How is wind power better than other power souces? What pro and cons can wind do for the envirooment?
Answer: Wind power is basically a derivative of solar energy, since the wind is created by differences in solar radiation and the resulting pressure changes in the atmosphere. For this reason, it is considered a renewable energy source. It is not true that wind power produces NO form of pollution or emissions, since the manufacturing process consumes both resources and energy, and if batteries are combined with the installation, considerable amounts of toxic waste are created by the batteries.
Wind has an advantage over solar because it is not limited to daylight hours. However, wind power can be fickle and many times I pass large wind farms that are not generating power because of a lack of wind. The unpredictable supply is a significant drawback. Power consumption tends to be very predictable and often peaks at times when wind power is at the lowest level, such as during very high pressure that produces high demand for air conditioning. Since there is no easy way to store electricity wind power is only capable of being a supplement to the power grid. Installations that depend on wind power must install large banks of batteries and hope that the batteries will store enough power to last until the wind blows again.
Cost recovery for wind power is currently not competitive. The cost I see quoted most often is about $0.09/ kw/hr which is typically higher than most utilities charge the consumer today, meaning to have this cost as a wholesale cost is not competitive. Currently the only way commercial wind power generators make money is because of tax subsidies.
Wind generators take considerably less energy to manufacture than solar cells, which take so much energy that estimates range from 4-20 years before the energy generated covers the energy consumed in manufacture.
Two significant drawbacks for wind generators have been that both birds and bats (often endangered) have been killed by wind generators. The bat problem has forced some wind farms to close down or move. Bird migration has been a problem for some wind farms, but there appear to be methods of alleviating this. One idea that holds promise is to use vertical wind generators that often have significantly smaller area for a bird or bat to collide with.
So far there has been a surprising amount of resistance to installation of wind farms. The most well-known example was the proposed offshore wind farm off of Cape Cod. Even Senator Kennedy opposed this one. In other areas people who tried to get permits often find that most municipalities will not allow wind generators due to some zoning code such as height restrictions or some other limitation. Ironically, wind mills were and still are used all over the rural western US for pumping water for livestock, since the 1800's.

Question: Winter Trout Fishing In a Pond?
I live in Wyoming and currently going to college and has fished my whole life just never in the cooler months. I know of a few beaver ponds that have trout in them and i was wondering what tackle and techniques there are for trout fishing in the cold. (the ponds are not frozen over yet, its between 50 and 60 degrees so far.. weird i know)
Answer: If the pond and stream don't ice over, you can fish it all year long. As long as the snow or ice don't keep you away, go fish.
As to techniques, I'd recommend fly fishing. If you're having a warm fall just fish it like you would any other time of the year -- mayflies will probably still be hatching, maybe even some small caddisflies, and you might even find some terrestrials on the water (I'm also in the western U.S. and I'm still seeing grasshoppers). As winter sets in and the water temperature drops, try the following patterns:
Midges: These are very small aquatic insects that live part of their lives in the water as pupae and then come to the surface of the water to hatch as tiny flying insects. They look a little like mosquitoes, a little like gnats. Anyway, on warmer winter days when the sun gets on the water, you'll see midge hatches, and midge flies (both dry flies and nymphs) will catch fish. Smaller patterns (18-22) work best. Cast them to rising fish or use a strike indicator at various depths if you're using nymphs.
Eggs: Various trout spawn in the fall and winter. Brown trout spawn in fall, rainbow trout spawn in the early winter, and cutthroats spawn in early spring. There will be various salmonid eggs in the water all through the winter, so use egg patterns in any areas where there's current -- trout will be looking for eggs that have come out of the redds (nests) and into the current. Fish them close to the bottom with a strike indicator.
Nymphs: Lots of aquatic insects live in streams and ponds, and the nymph and pupa stages of these critters are important food sources for trout throughout the winter. The nymphal stages of mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies can be imitated with a variety of patterns and sizes. Some of the generic ones include Hare's Ear Nymph, Prince Nymph, and Pheasant Tail. Dead drift these in areas where there is current. Smaller patterns will be best, and you'll have to fish intently -- you have to get the fly within a couple inches of the trout's mouth.
Check in at your local fly fishing shop to talk to folks who can refine these general guidelines -- they can maybe recommend specific flies that will work in your area.
If you don't fly fish, lightweight spinning tackle will do just fine. A light or ultralight rod with 2-4 pound mono with 1-3 feet of lightweight fluorocarbon leader is great for fishing winter trout in stillwater. Bait will work -- use worms, salmon eggs, and even hamburger on or near the bottom with splitshot and no bobber. Or, you can dangle hooks below a bobber through areas with current. Small (1/32 oz. up to 1/8 oz.) lead head jigs that imitate minnows or small aquatic insects are productive in winter. Just remember, when the water gets REALLY cold, trout will not move or chase much at all. You have to put your bait or lure within inches of the trout's nose, and things like spinners will not be very effective.
Winter fishing is great -- it's challenging, it lets you see the waterway in different "apparel" and you often have the whole place to yourself.

Shark Fishing Techniques For Anglers
Saltwater fishing usually includes fishing for sharks. The shark is a fascinating creature that gets lots of attention from anglers.
There are different species of shark that are sought after by anglers for both the sport of fishing and for food. They do taste great and they can put up an amazing fight making their popularity grow. In some locations you can fish for sharks from the beach area so even anglers without boats can join in on the fun and adventure of shark fishing.
This is an exciting species of fish that can be very alluring yet evasive. It takes time and lots of patience to go shark fishing. It is unlike any other type of fishing and requires skill to catch and reel in this unusual fish species.
You need some unique shark fishing techniques to help you get the most out of shark fishing and the information below should help you out.
Where and When to Go Shark Fishing
To get started shark fishing you need to know where and when to go. When deciding where to go shark fishing there are two things that you need to look for. One is the water temperature and the other is structures. Sharks are located in different parts of the ocean depending on what species you are searching for and the time of year you go.
Normally, they are offshore creatures that swim deep in the oceans but they do move inland to find warmer waters when they are ready to mate with other sharks, lay eggs or give live birth. The best advice is to learn as much about the species of fish you intend to go after as possible. This will give you a great advantage.
Most any structure will make a great home for sharks. They will hover around dips in the sea floor, around rocks, small islands and so forth. Get a map of the area where you are fishing and learn where the structures are before you go out. The best time to start shark fishing is in March all the way through September in most locations.
This is the time of year that the water temperature warms up enough to where they start coming closer inshore. However, right in the middle of the summer when it is the hottest they will move offshore into the cooler waters then back inland as the shallows begin to cool back down to a more moderate temperature.
Bait, Tackle and Techniques for Shark Fishing
You don't need a lot of fancy equipment, tackle or bait to go shark fishing. Your main concern should be quality gear that will withstand the elements and the struggle the sharks will put up.
When you go shark fishing you will need to have heavy tackle because the sharks are strong and will put up a struggle. Circle hooks are recommended for the best results and it doesn't hurt to carry a variety of rods and reels with you on each trip.
